Emcore Corp of Alhambra, CA, USA – which provides indium phosphide (InP)-based optical chips, components, subsystems and systems for the broadband and specialty fiber-optics markets – has launched the Model 3644 mini-Tx 1.2GHz, 1550nm linear externally modulated laser (L-EML) CATV transmitter subassembly, which is claimed to be the most compact L-EML-based transmitter released to-date. The Model 3644 will support links up to 100km with all the core elements required for designers to quickly integrate L-EML device technology into a variety of CATV transmitter platforms.

The trouble with trying to evaluate any monitor’s image quality is that it is very subjective. What one person may think looks good, another may think it looks terrible. For me personally I wan’t the monitor to match as closely to what I am seeing in my cameras EVF.

Often when shooting long interviews I don’t want to be hunched over an EVF and prefer to use a monitor. By having the camera control available on the Cine 7 I can change things quickly and also start/stop the recording.

In older analog systems, each TV signal occupied one 6-MHz channel. Modern digital signals may have one TV signal per channel or more. Digital TV signals can be compressed using MPEG compression algorithms to reduce the amount of channel space required for transmission, allowing multiple signals per channel. Downstream modulation is usually 64-state QAM (64QAM) or 256-state QAM (256QAM), meaning each channel can deliver a data rate up to 38 Mbits/s. Higher speeds can be achieved by using channel bonding, which transmits the data stream in two or more 6-MHz channels.

“We have a really active ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) group in the Boulder,” said Andrews. “We’ve been providing our services to the Sheriff’s Department since 1990, covering public protests, large fires and the like. We’ve also gone out on SWAT calls to provide video coverage to the sheriff’s command center. They don’t have their own coverage capability, and there is no [law enforcement] RF allocation for this either.
